The quick + simple guide to start repurposing your content
Your content has lots of potential. yes, even the one's that are low-performing and has little engagement.
However, we believe that once we put it out there, it's "Done" and we'll have to keep coming up with new content ideas.
Only a small percentage of your audience will be online when you post new content. Most of them would have missed your new post.
Some of them may see it after going into your profile or from your Instagram stories.
Content repurposing helps revive existing content - both low-performing content and high-performing content.
There are many reasons why certain content don't perform as well as others. This doesn't mean that the content was necessarily bad.
Some common reasons:
Content was only shared once or a handful of times
Headline wasn't gripping or interesting enough for readers to click on
Format of the content makes it hard to read
Content was too long (too wordy) or content was too short (not enough context)
And so much more
I noticed that a lot of my clients have a huge archive of content sitting on their Google Drives collecting digital dust.
These content may look like:
Podcasts (recordings and scripts)
Sales pages
Social media posts
Blog posts
Opt-ins
Interviews
Speeches
Also, don't forget the conversations you have participated in and answered questions. These are great places to find content ideas!
Conversations in Slack, direct messages (DMs), etc
Emails
Online communities such as Facebook Groups
Here are three steps to start repurposing your content:
1. Pick one type of content you'd like to repurpose.
2. For long-form content such as blog posts or podcasts: Decide how many pieces of content you'd like to extract from your existing content and in what form (quotes, reels, carousel posts, etc)
For short-form content such as social media posts: Decide on ONE other platform you'd like to redistribute it to.
3. Block out a time period in your calendar each week or month to take action.
Make it simple and doable!
Doesn't mean that it's long-form content, you need to extract ten or twenty pieces of content from it. For now, do what's manageable. Even if that looks like just one piece of content.
Don't complicate it. If turning your podcast into bite-size videos sounds like a chore, then do text-based content instead of video reels.
Videos require editing and subtitles. It takes more time. Text can be easily added to a social media post template and published.
