Taking Action on World Environment Day: Here's How I'm Contributing
I’ve been thinking about the environment and how my businesses may potentially affect it for a very long time, literally over for over a year.
My main goal for anything I sell is first to help people in their lives and businesses.
My second goal is for my business is be sustainable for both myself and our environment.
Because honestly, we’re likely gonna live on this Earth for a good amount of years and for our future generations, it’ll be much longer.
I’ve had dreams around starting a clothing brand to candles to stationery. I would say that businesses that sells physical products produce a lot of waste, especially packaging waste.
No shade to anyone who sells physical products. I used to sell physical products myself.
However, I now simply don’t feel comfortable selling physical products, especially if it’s going to generate additional packaging waste.
If you’ve been following my Instagram stories for awhile, you may have noticed that I try to recycle as much as I can.
I recycle most, including food packaging. I keep packaging from online purchases which I will re-use when I need to mail something out, and the rest goes to the recycling bin.
I also sometimes recycle lemon and orange peels and turn them into fruit vinegar for cleaning. And turn used coffee grounds into a body scrub!
I would say that my efforts are not the most ideal, but I try my best.
This is what I’ve decided when it comes to my business:
Coaching and Content Repurposing
All digital
I have a digital journal in the pipeline, and will provide ready-to-print digital files and people can print them if they need
Stickers
All digital
Will provide ready-to-print digital files and people can print them if they need
It’s definitely challenging to be even 50% environmentally conscious but what matters is that we do something.
I also know we can definitely argue that burning fuel for electricity, and therefore the Internet, isn’t environmentally friendly but let’s start somewhere.
How I’m contributing:
Reducing my shopping, buying less things but buying more experiences
Selling digital products
Recycle
Using less water and electricity such as being conscious of switching off any appliances not in use
Take public transport
Do you plan to be more environmentally conscious in your business?
If not, frankly, there’s nothing wrong with that. You do you! I respect that we all have different values and dreams :)
